Essay: "Nothing to Lose"

by Marcus Shedd
Over the years I've heard people say, "man I'ma do this, I'ma do that. Why not, I don't have nothing to lose." I just sit back and watch them, trying to figure out why they believe they have nothing to lose, when I can count numerous things they can lose. No matter if your homeless, rich, or poor, black, white, or Mexican, we will always have something to lose. Some will lose more than others, but in the end, we will all lose something. I believe people that claim they have nothing to lose, have experienced something to make them feel that way, others I believe have been taught to see, and feel that way. Maybe it's a mental problem, either way "nothing to lose" shouldn't be in our vocabulary because it speaks of negativity, and once we become consumed by negativity, we become destroyed. In the end nothing to lose always will turn into something to lose.
